What to include on a handyman invoice
- Your business name, contact details and license number if your trade requires one
- The client's name, billing address and the job or project address
- Each task as its own line, with a short description
- Hourly labor or flat price per task
- Parts and supplies purchased for the job
- Subtotal, tax (if you charge it) and the balance due
- Payment terms, due date and how the client can pay
How handyman businesses usually bill
Handymen usually charge hourly with a minimum (often one or two hours), or a flat price per task. Materials are billed at cost or with a small markup.
Listing every task separately helps clients see the value of a multi-job visit.
Questions
Hourly or per task?
Either works. Per-task prices are easier for clients to approve; hourly is fairer for unpredictable jobs.
Do I need a license?
Rules vary by state — some require a license above a certain job value. Check locally.
