What to include on a photography invoice
- Your business name, contact details and license number if your trade requires one
- The client's name, billing address and the job or project address
- The shoot date, location and session type
- Deliverables — number of edited images, prints or albums
- Usage or licensing terms for the images
- Any retainer already paid
- Subtotal, tax (if you charge it) and the balance due
- Payment terms, due date and how the client can pay
How photography businesses usually bill
Photographers usually take a non-refundable retainer to book the date, then invoice the balance before or soon after the shoot. Commercial work often adds a separate usage or licensing fee.
Prints, albums and extra editing hours are best listed as their own lines.
